An Overview of New Jersey Ski Resorts

There are two ski resorts in New Jersey, both located in the northern corner. They both have their own unique offerings, and as they are located within a half hour’s drive of each other, it’s easy to visit both during a single ski trip. The following are the two areas with a brief description

• Campgaw Mountain Ski Area
• Mountain Creek Ski Resort

Campgaw Mountain

This is the smaller of the two ski parks in New Jersey. It offers 13 ski trails over 18 acres. There are two lifts and three surface “magic carpet” pulls. The surface conveyors service the dedicated learning center where there is a wide-open area for novice skiers to get their legs. Lift 1 leads to the peak with four expert runs, while lift two has a mid-station where there are two intermediate and two beginner runs.

Campgaw also features a large snow tubing area as well. With 100 percent snow making coverage over the mountain, this ski area is perfect for skiers of all experience levels as well as families or couples just looking to have some fun.

Mountain Creek Ski Resort

Mountain Creek is the premiere resort in the tristate area of Pennsylvania, New York, and Jersey. With 167 acres to ski on, this park has a lot to offer. There are 44 trails with 100 percent snow coverage and 7 lifts to service them. The mountain has a vertical of 1040 feet, which is the highest vertical on the east coast south of Vermont. Mountain Creek has four separate peaks: Vernon, Granite, Bear, and South Peak. Each offers their own mix of skiing and have their own base camp with parking, so plan ahead to avoid confusion.

South Peak is where you go if you want to play around in a terrain park. With 57 acres dedicated to rails, boxes, and a half-pipe, there’s plenty of fun to be had. Bear Peak has four separate expert rated trails and one intermediate that runs along the outskirts of the park. Granite Peak has a double black diamond that sends you shooting down the trail. There are also a series of novice runs that lead you down the mountain. Vernon Peak is home to the learning area and the fun and gentle sugar slope trail. Take one of the two lifts to the peak and you can take one of three ways down the mountain. A zippy steep expert run, a fun intermediate that splits into a triple branch, or a nice and swooping easy trail. All end up at the Red Tail Lodge at the base.
